How the idea grew
The idea behind MIRA was born out of my own frustration as a material inventor. I experienced daily the limitations of the traditional, manual method of inventorying – a process that is both time-consuming and highly dependent on the consultant's experience. A mistake in this process, such as missing hazardous waste like asbestos, can have disastrous consequences. In Sweden, approximately 270 people die annually from lung cancer directly caused by the inhalation of asbestos fibres. This made me realize how important it is not only to identify hazardous waste, but also to protect both human health and our environment from its harmful effects. I also saw other effects of a correct inventory, such as being able to increase the circular flows of materials and reduce the proportion of materials that today require high-temperature incineration.
But it wasn't just the health risks that drove me. I also saw that the lack of digital aids for material inventory often made the end result difficult to explain to customers. It was often unclear and required a lot of explanation, which made communication and decision-making difficult. I realized that a solution was needed – a platform that not only digitizes the inventory, but also makes it easily accessible and understandable for all parties. There MIRA was born. My vision was to create a digital platform that would facilitate the entire inventory process, with a particular focus on hazardous waste and recyclable materials.
MIRA guides the user through the sampling process and makes it possible to work directly on construction drawings. By marking sample points, logging images and notes, the user gets a clear overview of where hazardous waste is located, while identifying recyclable materials. The result is both efficient and transparent – easy to understand for everyone involved and with a significantly lower risk of missed dangerous materials.
